Frot(HER) Women In Snowboarding podcast is based on women and their endeavors in snowboarding. From stories on backcountry travel, working in snowboard shops, and also competing on the mountain. The smiles, the tears, and everything in between. Froth on frothers.
Hie, I’m Shelley. Your lady frother of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, and wherever else the love of snowboarding takes me. Learning how to snowboard when I was younger in my back yard in Coventry, CT. The amount of shit I have ate on a snow skate will forever be engraved in my mind. Then all of a sudden learned that these things get bigger and have bindings on them! Who knew you could be attached to a board? It took me about 1 1/2 years till I learned how to do a toe side turn and not have to heel slide my way slowly down the mountain. It finally clicked one day when a good friend Kristin Leggett said “bend your knees”… ohh hahah “I GET IT NOW” I screamed making my way down Killington Mountain in Vermont. Right then I believe is when my heart and soul realized… i’ll be doing this for as long as I can. Since this moment back in 2013 I’ve worked at a handful of snowboard shops (major shout out to Darkside Snowboards in Vermont, if you are ever in the area drop in and check them out), learned how to hit the park, do some spins, learned how to split board, work on my fear of heights and big mountain riding, jumping off cliffs and dropping into couloirs.
My stoke and love for snowboarding grow everyday. Something else that seems to be growing is my realization of differences in men and women snowboarding. The support, the money, the expectations. As women seem to be getting noticed more, it sparks a lot of conversations and thoughts about equality differences. Not only am I here to share my personal stories as a women in the snowboard industry, but also here to help spark conversations on thoughts of women in snowboarding and how to create more equality in the world of the women frothing in winter,
